Resource Laboratories
Information on laboratories holding significant genetic resources
(alphabetical order)
-
Biorepository Directory - extensive, mostly USA based:
“Searchable biorepository database. Repositories are listed in
alphabetical order. Over 35 listed.” -

CDC Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: “Overview
of CDC priorities in genomics and population health 2003.
Newborn Screening Program. National Health and Nutrition
Examination Survey (NHANES) DNA Bank. Prevalence of gene
variants that code for enzymes involved in nicotine and
carcinogen metabolism. Churchill County Leukemia Cluster
Investigation. The National Birth Defects Prevention Study
Centralized Laboratory. Genetics of Kidneys in Diabetes (GoKinD)
Study. Case-control study of environmental exposures and genetic

Centre for Integrated Genomic Medical Research (CIGMR) UK:
“CIGMR is based within The Faculty of Medical and Human Sciences
of The University of Manchester, UK. CIGMR functions as a
genomics research resource centre, providing a wide range of key
competencies and sophisticated technical platforms supporting
academic and clinical groups, University spin-out companies,
SMEs and the biotech community including pharma.” -

Coriell Cell Repositories: “The
Coriell Cell Repositories house the world's largest collection
of human cell cultures. A cell repository, or cell bank, is a
collection of living cells maintained indefinitely at extremely
low temperatures in a state of suspended animation." -

-
European Collection of Cell Cultures
(ECACC): “The collections currently hold over 40,000 cell
lines representing 45 different species, 50 tissue types, 300
HLA types, 450 monoclonal antibodies and at least 800 genetic
disorders." -

HGDP-CEPH Human Genome Diversity Cell
Line Panel: "A resource of 1064 cultured lymphoblastoid cell
lines (LCLs) from 1051 individuals in 51 different world
populations and corresponding milligram quantities of DNA is
banked at the Foundation Jean Dausset (CEPH) in Paris."

Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle, USA: “ISB was
co-founded in 2000 in Seattle, Washington by Dr. Leroy Hood, an
immunologist and technologist; Dr. Alan Aderem, an immunologist
and Dr. Reudi Aebersold, a protein chemist. It has since grown
to more than 170 staff members, including eleven faculty members
and laboratory groups. It has established facilities for DNA
sequencing, genotyping, DNA arrays and cell separations. The
Institute emerged as a result of the new research model called
systems biology a revolutionary approach to analyzing biological
complexity and understanding how biological systems function.
The Institute has brought together a multidisciplinary group of
scholars and scientists, from biologists, mathematicians and
engineers, to computer scientists and physicists, in an
interactive and collaborative environment.” -

KI Biobank: "A national biobank
for collection, handling and storage of human biological
material has been established at Karolinska Institutet. This
non-commercial resource aims to promote scientific excellence
within molecular and genetic research in Sweden." -

-
Rockefeller University Genomics Resource Center: "The Genomics Resource Center
was established in December 2004 by combining the two previous resource centers,
Gene Array and Genotyping." -
